I have the 880 and the problem you describe is very curious. The 880 cartridges dont have any chip in them. The software estimates the ink left in the cartridge based upon usage. When you take out the old cartridge and replace it, it resets the ink level to full, even if the cartridge is completely empty. I have refilled my 880 cartridges at least 10 times already and have never had the problem you describe
