Need technical info on Epson C-80 chip carts

I have a need to modify the Epson C-80 printers to bypass the cart chips (NOT reset them) this is for a special purpose (not regular printing) and while I can probably figure it out (electronic tech) I would like to know if anybody has already done this or know how the printer and chip talk.
