Hi <>, If your name is "Subscriber" then we do not have your first name. If you don't mind us referring to you as Subscriber then fine but if you prefer us to use your name then you have two options. 1. Unsubscribe and re-subscribe with a valid name or 2. Email us and we will change it for you. We recently had to change our list provider to an in house server based mailing program because LISTBOT is discontinuing their free service that we were using. We had to convert our mailing list to a form that the new program could understand. If your name at the top is Subscriber, or is not your name then we apologize, you are a victim of our change. Please let us know. Recharger Magazine: July 2001 STAMFORD, Conn. — Pitney Bowes Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Company announced agreements which settle litigation between the companies and provide ongoing business and technology opportunities for both firms. Under the terms of the agreements, the companies resolved all pending patent litigation without admission of infringement, and HP will pay Pitney Bowes $400 million in cash. A 1995 lawsuit brought by Pitney Bowes involving print technology patents was scheduled to go to trial in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, and suits by HP were pending. Additionally, the companies entered into a technology licensing agreement and expect to pursue business and commercial relationships. No further details of the agreements will be made available. "Pitney Bowes has a long history of licensing its technology, as part of its strategic deployment of its intellectual property assets, and currently has license agreements with companies in a variety of industries, including printing, word processing, shipping and mailing. The resolution of these issues allows us to extend our working relationship with HP and enables the continued expansion and development of future products and services that benefit our respective customers," said Murray D. Martin, Executive Vice President and Group President, Global Mailing Systems, Pitney Bowes. "We are pleased that we were able to reach agreement with HP before trial and believe the settlement is good for both parties." "These agreements allow both companies to avoid the continuing costs, time, uncertainty and distractions of lengthy legal battles, engage in mutually beneficial business opportunities and focus on meeting the needs of our customers," said Ann Baskins, HP Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. HP will revise its previously released statement of earnings for its second fiscal quarter ended April 30, 2001 by recording the $400 million settlement as a pre-tax charge for such quarter. Both should have a street value under $175.00. They will use the Lexmark 12A1970 black (what a surprise!) and the 12M0120 color cartridges. ********** Canon ********** The Washington Times ran an article that states : Canon S600 Inkjet puts laser printers to shame. Out of the box, the Canon S600 offers 1,200-by-1,200 dots-per -inch (dpi) printing, enough to produce black text that rivals the sharpness of the Hewlett Packard LaserJet 3150 (a multif- unction unit that includes a scanner and fax machine) with which it shares desk space. In terms of color, the 'standard' setting is enough to produce very nice printouts of, say, a 10-slide Microsoft PowerPoint slide presentation (two to a page) in five minutes. The resulting printout is photo-sharp and impressive overall. Where the S600 can truly shine is in printing photos, where it can be set to print 2,400x1,200 color dpi for 2,880,000 dots. Canon says this bests other inkjet printers offering 2,880x720 color dpi 'only 2,073,600 dots' by adding more than 800,000 dots per square inch. This means the Canon printer places more ink on the paper, extending what the firm calls the 'color gamut' for deeper colors. In plainer language, this is a printer that can go from running off the kid's homework to household budget reports to family photos from a vacation trip, all without losing out in the speed race. Canon says the printer churns out pages at a rate of 15 pages per minute in black and 10 ppm in color. Photo prints at 8x10-inch size are created on plain paper in approx- imately 90 seconds, the firm says, a speed comparable to dedicated inkjet photo printers The article is no longer on The Washington Times web site but we will re-print it here for a short time for our readers. http://atlascopy.com/twt.htm ********** Epson ********** Important information for those refilling with the Epson chip reprogrammer. It has come to our attention that there are some after market cartridges that have a larger chip on them. Thus making resetting the chip with the reprogrammer impossible. The reprogrammer is for the Epson Chips on the OEM cartridges. Epson has introduced a new printer, Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX, This printer lists for $249, with an optional LCD moniter for $99. PC Magazine gives this printer a 5 out of 5 rating. Article from PC Magazine: Even without PIM technology, the Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX would still be an outstanding printer. A resolution of 2,880 -by-720, 4-picoliter variable dot size, and a 6-color piezo- electric printhead all help deliver gorgeous, virtually continuous-tone photo-quality images that can be archived for up to 25 years. Its PCMCIA card slot and easy-to-use control panel make the unit capable of printing directly from almost any memory card without a computer. There's even an optional 1.6-inch color LCD monitor ($99 list) for previewing images before printing. Other features include true borderless printing without smearing, a holder for 4-inch roll paper, USB connectivity, and the ability to transfer image files from memory cards to your computer automatically. Rounding out the package are Epson's Film Factory and ArcSoft's PhotoImpression software. Although this printer is very quiet, it's no speed demon; we waited nearly 8 minutes for the printer to output a 5- by 7–inch borderless photo. But our criteria valued quality over speed, which made finding flaw with the 785EPX difficult. ================================================= Ever wonder what certain words mean, when reading your printer manual. OEM cartridges can be found here: http://atlascopy.com/cartridges/ ================================================= General Tips Each newsletter will have a few tips to help you in the re- filling process. You can Email questions to atlas@dvol.com. When you shoot ink into a cartridge it upsets the internal pressures in the cartridge. When the cartridge is full, let it set on some newspapers or in a plastic container for 15 minutes or more before putting it back into your printer. This will give the cartridge time to stabilize internally. The excess ink will drain off and the chambers inside will reach equilibrium. Wipe off the print head with a paper towel or cloth and reinstall or put into a zip lock bag for storage. Note, some cartridges, like the HP51626A/HP51629A require about an hour to stabilize. When you are refilling an HP51626A/HP51629A, it will leak out the head quite heavily at first, until it starts to fill up. Thats because there is a air bladder in the cartridge that has to become presureized before it will stop leaking. ================================================== That's all for now.
