Many times when talking about inks for inkjet printers the manufacturer will use ml
(milliliters) or cc (cubic centimeters). Certain syringes are measured in cc's and ounces,
while others use cc's only. Bulk dealers like to know how many ounces they are getting in
a gallon, pint, 1/2 pint and so on. These tables will aid you in figuring out how many
refills you can expect to get from your particular cartridge. For example. Canons BC-02
cartridge holds 27ccs of ink when it is new. To avoid overfilling the cartridge when it
comes time to refill it we generally advise to use 17ccs. Using the tables below we can
calculate approximately how many refills we can get by purchasing 1/2 pint of black ink.
We can do this two ways. We can convert everything into ounces or we can convert it to
ccs. Since the cartridge is rated in ccs we'll use that measurement.
We see by looking at the table that 1 pint equals 473.167ccs.
Divide this by 2 for our 1/2 pint example and we get 236.5835. This number represents the
number of ccs in 1/2 pint of ink. Since, as we stated earlier, it takes 17ccs to fill the
cartridge we will divide 17 into 236.5835 and discover that 1/2 pint of black ink will
fill our BC-02 13.916676470588235294117647058824 times, or 14
times.
Lets see how much money we are saving, on average, to refill this cartridge. The
average times that you can refill this cartridge is 5 times. First of all we need to buy 5

$94.75. 1/2 pint of
ink plus one refill
kit (to get the tools to refill the cartridge) $11.95 + $14.95 = $26.90. Our total cost
is $121.65. (14 fills plus the initial 5 = 19 fills).
To buy 19 cartridges new costs $18.95 X 19 = $360.05. The difference between $360.05
and $121.65 is our savings, or $238.40. We can also calculate our cost per refill at
$111.24 / 19 or $6.40.
