Cleaning Epson Print Heads Revisited
Many Canon inkjet printer owners experience problems, at one time or another, with clogged print heads. The good thing with Canon
printers, however, is that they have removable print heads. This aspect makes it possible for the customer to at least make an attempt
at repairing it before replacing it, which could be costly.
This weeks article by one of our readers, Chuck Rosemond, uses a hybrid of different cleaning procedures. After reviewing several
articles on cleaning Canon print heads he devised a simple way to unclog the worst of them. He took the best of each article and the results speak for themselves. Please read the article below.
Cleaning Print Heads
By Chuck Rosemond
In Dec. 03 one of your customers/subscribers knowing of a printer problem I was having, forwarded your “How to Clean Clogged Inkjet
Print heads” to me. It was quite helpful. I combined it with another method and then added an idea of my own, which follows should you or
anyone else be interested.

Method: Print Head Cleaning
The printer is a Canon BJC-2110 with a removable print head that holds 2 cartridges. This should work with any similar type print head unit.
Use 91% denatured isopropyl alcohol-not 'rubbing' alcohol. Remember that it is flammable when choosing your work area and methods. Also that you
are working with ink, which can get messy and damage surfaces if you are careless.
1. After taking the print head unit out of the printer, remove the cartridges(s). From the side that is clogged (or both) and store temporarily in
its original resealed wrap or any other seal-able
container with a couple of drops of alcohol. In the bottom to keep it 'wet'.
2. Place a folded paper towel (or towel part) in the bottom of a seal-able container and wet it with alcohol.
3. Place the print head face on the towel and seal it for a few hours.
4. Later open, leaving the print head/ctg. unit in place and use a full eye dropper to flush alcohol
through the appropriate ink 'hole(s)' that show inside the print head/ctg. unit. Don't rush this,
do a drop at a time or you will just flood the inside of the unit. Good light helps here to see the black if the unit color is black.
5. Reseal and repeat #3 & #4 at least once adding more alcohol as necessary to keep the towel moist.
6. Remove and use a Q Tip with alcohol and clean the outside open ink passages and orifices on the print head.
Dry the print head with the other end of the Q Tip. Something similar that doesn't shed cotton fibers might be better, but this works ok for me.
7. Immediately put everything back together and do enough cleaning cycles to get the ink flowing through the print head and run print tests.
I haven't found it necessary to repeat this, as it worked; but you could repeat #1-7 until it gets to a working state or you are convinced that the print head unit is no good.

Till next time.
Happy printing
