How To Obtain Empties For Refilling

I apologize if I was slow returning emails this week. You see I had a four day fight with my new printer, an Epson R320 to be exact. I bought it on Sunday and I have been trying to get it to print from my computer for four days now, last night I just gave up.

Even the guys from Epson, the dudes with the propellers on their heads, could not figure out the problem after spending three hours on the phone with them. I stumped them all! You know if I have to call tech support to get a printer installed that the problem is not trivial!

The printer works without a computer just fine and I printed some of the most amazing photos from my memory card that I have ever seen from any printer. Oh well, back to the trusty Photo 780.

For Epson users who would like more control over their printers there is a utility available for fr*ee that works on most Epson printers. You can even reset the chip in some cases with this software. How To Obtain Empties For Refilling
by Barry Shultz

People who refill for profit often have the problem of obtaining viable empties to refill. Many of the newer cartridges like HP95, HP96 etc are so scarce that they don't even offer them. So what do you do when you need empties and can't find them? Well you can do what my suppliers do and charge a premium for the few that you can get. I can assure you that they won't be sitting on the shelf gathering dust.

You should, of course, be concentrating on the most popular cartridges like the HP6578 and HP51645A. These are the bread and butter ink cartridges and your main sellers.

Most of the main office supply stores have inkjet cartridge drop off bins where a lot of the cartridges end up. Believe it or not the OEM manufacturers buy these back and refill them too. You never know when you will get a refilled cartridge from the OEM guys because they are not marked as such and they definitely don't come discounted like all other remanufactured cartridges do. Bet you didn't know that!

So where does one find quality empty virgin inkjet cartridges? There are two general places to get them, locally or on the net and I will discuss both in more detail. Keep in mind that where ever you go you will have to fork out some cash if you want the good stuff. You don't have to spend a lot unless you can get your hands on the rare ones. One or two bucks each would be the most I would spend. The brand new, and popular cartridges I would go a little higher.

Don't bother refilling any cartridge that doesn't have a print head. The generics are to cheap and you won't make a profit on them.

Locally you can approach some of the larger businesses in your area. Get yourself some kind of drop off box and offer to buy any cartridges (with print heads) that are deposited in your drop off box.

Run a small cheap ad in your local newspaper explaining that you buy empty inkjet cartridges for cash.

Ask the manager at the grocery stores in your area if you can put a drop off box inside the entry way. You can provide envelopes for people to put them in along with a tag for them to fill out so you can pay them. After a time people will remember your box and start dropping them in. Use the environmental approach for a much better response with this method.

Check out the schools and colleges, they go through a lot of ink. Use the same method for collection that was mentioned above. Schools are such a great place to get empty cartridges that the guy in this article makes around $60,000 each month by collecting cartridges from schools and churches and selling them to cartridge brokers.

Ok, some ideas for the internet. There are many places on the internet where you can buy empty cartridges. Here is a few to start with.

http://www.empties.com
http://www.rcrimaging.com/selling.htm
http://ebay.com
http://bestempties.com/

Also, you can Google "empty cartridge dealers" or "buy empty cartridges". Most of your results will be people looking to buy your empties but if you contact the true brokers, not the refillers, you can get their price list for the empties. If it's a refiller site the prices for empties definitely will not be posted on their site because they aren't selling.

Another source would be sites that are designed to bring buyers and sellers together like http://www.alibaba.com .

The magazine that you definitely want to subscribe to is Recharger Magazine.
http://www.rechargermag.com/

Even the casual refiller should subscribe to this magazine. It's that good. You can even order a sample off their web site for $7.00. Yearly subscription rate is $45.00/12 issues domestic and $105.00/12 issues international.

There is also a central and south-east European version published in seven languages including English that can be obtained for free.
http://rechargeast.com

You can download back issues of the entire magazine in PDF format right from the web site. This company is amazing. There is a king's ransom-full of refilling information in these downloadable magazines. I'm not sure how to get the free hardcopy because it just started coming to me, I didn't subscribe to it. If you inquire at their web site I'm sure you can get signed up.

Although the magazines are geared more towards laser cartridge
remanufacturing there is still plenty of good articles on refilling inkjets.
