Refilling Is Easier Than You Think
Margaret Copeley writes in with this...
Last year I bought two HP 56 OEM cartridges and easily refilled them up to
10 times each, maybe more. I bought OEM in order to get maximum refills.
When the print quality diminished I bought 2 new cartridges, also OEM HP-
56. I am unable to refill these at all. Two problems:
1) They will only absorb 2 ml of ink, even when filled veeeery slowly.
2) They won't print at all. The page is blank.
I did some research on the Internet. My research SEEMS to indicate that in
the past year HP has made a change in the cartridge that (1) prevents
refilling and/or (2) prevents printing once refilled.
*********
While I have not found any evidence of the HP 56 cartridge housing being
changed I do see evidence that they may have changed the sponge material. The sponge material just barely holds the OEM assigned amount,
and on successive refills the sponge material will not hold a full fill. The
best thing you can do to help this problem is by using a priming tool to suck
out all the foamy ink before refilling. It's also used to re-prime the cartridge
after refilling. Our "HP Cartridge Prime 57" tool is perfect for this situation.

If you are in the market for a new printer and you want to research locally,
take your digital camera with you when you go shopping. Most new printers have memory card docks built into them now and you can test out
your camera's compatibility with the printer right on the spot.

Talking about buying a new printer there are a few things about the printer
cable that you should be aware of. First, most new printers do not
come with a printer cable. Check your cabling before you leave the house.
Do you have a parallel or a USB connection? Older printers used the
parallel type of cable which has a wide connector, while the USB cable
has a much smaller connector on each end. Many new printers only have
a USB connection so if your printer isn't equipped to handle that be
prepared to purchase a USB interface to install into your computer. Don't
worry, they aren't that expensive and are easy to install. Also if this is the
case don't forget to buy the USB cable too.

A true story. When I was in the copier business it was very competitive
and the salesmen did just about anything to make a sale. A customer
asked one of our salespeople if they could order it in the color of their
carpet which was a beastly beige color. "Sure, he said, we can get them
in any color you want." Well we got the copy machine and he actually got
the correct color paint from the hardware store and applied it to the
machine with a paint brush. It looked hideous but believe it or not the
customer loved it! Talk about taking a risk, that machine would have sat
forever because of the way it looked.

Refilling Is Easier Than You Think
by Barry Shultz
If you thought about refilling your inkjet cartridges but were afraid because
you thought it might be too difficult or too messy then you might just want
to think about it again after reading this article.
I get loads of email from people who took the leap and said they were glad
they did. They report how easy it is and they can't believe how much they
are saving.
Of course some cartridges are more difficult to refill than others but once
the learning curve is over anybody can successfully and constantly refill
their own inkjet cartridges.
I had to laugh the other day when my 16 year son decided to refill his
HP 56 cartridge from his "all in one". He watched us do it for him before so
this time he took the plunge all by himself. I was proud when he said,
"Wow dad, that was really easy. " And it worked perfectly. He was right in
the middle of printing out a rather large book that he downloaded online
when his cartridge ran out.
Some of my best instructions that are packed in my refill kits were
designed and written by retired persons. So even if you're a bit shaky, like
me, you can refill a inkjet cartridge without getting a divorce because you
ruined the carpet.
In the next town from where I live there is an outfit that remanufactures
inkjet and laser cartridges. They have a thriving business with many
customers. Their workforce is made up entirely of mentally challenged
people who volunteer their time as therapy for their handicap. It allows
them to feel useful and they feel great because they are contributing
a very useful service to society.
So it does not matter if your intelligent or not, young or old, dexterous or
shaky you can refill your own inkjet or laser cartridges. Boy scout and
girl scout troops around the world have long since been collecting ink
cartridges and selling them for fund raisers. A surprising number of
them are now refilling and reselling the cartridges for the extra profit for
their units. These are kids, but kids learn very quickly.
So if you are on the fence and think you can't do it for some reason you
just might kick yourself later when you finally take the plunge and give it
a try. Yes, you will get some ink on your fingers the first time, that's what
Lava soap is for. But your bank account will love you when you decide
to spend three bucks instead of thirty bucks to start printing again.

Till next time.
